The second a new car leaves the dealership lot, it instantly depreciates in value. While this is true for all new vehicles, some take a bigger hit than others over time. Find out which vehicles and brands have the highest and lowest depreciation values below.
Vehicles With The Highest and Lowest Depreciation Values
Highest Depreciation Vehicles
According to an iSeeCar’s study, the vehicles that show the highest depreciation after five years of ownership are the Nissan LEAF, Chevy Bolt, and BMW 7 Series. A number of other BMW and luxury sedans also made the top 10 list, perhaps because luxury shoppers prefer to purchase new.
While this list means that some car shoppers should stay away from these models when purchasing new, it is also a hint that these models can provide some excellent value for used car shoppers looking for a deal.
Lowest Depreciation Vehicles
The same study shows that the cars and trucks that take the smallest depreciation hit over five years of ownership are the Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Tacoma, and Toyota Tundra. That means that new car shoppers can feel confident that these vehicles are going to be a good investment and used vehicle shoppers should expect to pay a little more for these models when browsing used inventory.
